First year of Philippine Consulate in Larnaca

The Philippine Consulate office in Larnaca, headed by Honorary Consul Charmagne Garcia- Laconico, celebrates its first year today since its inauguration on the 26th of October, 2021. Aside from the citizens’ assistance and consular services responsibilities of the office, the Consulate’s role is to strengthen the representation of the Philippines in Cyprus and enhance the bilateral ties – economic, cultural, among others, between the Republic of Cyprus and the Republic of the Philippines. In this light, the Hon. Consul’s vision has also been to present and promote the best of the Philippines and let it be known in this side of the world. In the launch event itself, with the support of some of the best Filipino artisans and designers, the Phiippine Consulate office in Makariou avenue in Larnaka, unveiled the Philippine Consulate Showroom with the exhibit of exceptional fashion and accessory pieces brought here specially for the Best of the Philippines exhibit.

Throughout the year, the Philippine Consulate in Larnaca have managed to accomplish milestone achievements such as the celebration of the 2022 Philippine Independence Day event in Panos Solomonides Cultural Center in Limassol wherein the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades was the esteemed guest of honor and delivered an inspirational speech to the Filipino Community. Furthermore, the Hon. Consul Laconico have been actively meeting with with the Mayors and Goverment Officials of the different municipalities under her jurisdiction, intended for vouching mutual support and exchanging ideas on how to further improve cooperation. Continuously, this is done by her office in order to constructively discuss about matters concerning the constituents of the Consulate. As an active member of the Cyprus Diplomats and Spouses Association, Hon. Consul Laconico attends and initiates activities that support different causes that include women empowerment, art, culture, education and training.

Before the year ends, the Philippine Consulate in the idyllic city of Zenon, is currently working on two events to finish the year strong; a Benefit Event Performance on November with multi-awarded actress Paola Hadjilambri performing her monologue theatrical presentation, “Tears of Silence”, for the benefit of marginalized, abused women and children. And finally, in December, a Christmas celebration of unity with the Philippine community, the program will include a Christmas Carolling competition and a Lantern making Exhibition meant to relive traditional Philippine Christmas celebrations of years before.

All in all, the Philippine government has definitely strengthened its representation in the Republic of Cyprus this year and will continue to enhance bilateral ties in all areas in the future.
